Sony is one of the leading companies in the consumer electronics division and they have been doing fairly good in the mobile market as well. However, they are faced with tough competition from the likes of Apple, Samsung, HTC, and other manufacturers that are active in making touch screen phones. Sony Ericsson Touch Screen phones have a few models of their own each with pros and cons.

Sony Ericsson Satio

If you are after camera power, you may find the Sony Ericsson Satio to be a tempting choice. It is one of the first mobile devices to feature a 12-megapixel camera and the xenon flash and autofocus back up the capabilities rather well. In terms of colour rendering, the Sony Ericsson Satio does a great job the overall camera performance is also faster than other 12-megapixlel camera phones. It can also record video smoothly in 30 fps. Although the quality is VGA, the colours are decent and compression artefacts are minimal. As a touch screen phone, the interface is usable although the lack of a fancy OS means lack of support for applications.

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10

Enter the Xperia family of Sony Ericsson devices which are more on the multimedia side and heavily emphasized on touch. The Xperia X10 is one of the few phones that are comfortable to hold while still having a huge display. The camera may not be in level with the Satio, but the 8 megapixels should be good for most people and its LED flash still works alright. It can also record higher quality video in 720p resolution. The only real downside is the operating system that it uses. It starts off running the old Android 1.6 and while an upgrade is available, it still updates to the dated Eclair which is 2.1. Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) was released recently and it does not look like the update will be available on the Xperia X10 for a long while. Fortunately, you may like the custom user interface that is used to navigate through the phone's features.

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini

For some people, bigger may not always be better and if you are one of those folks, see the Xperia X10 mini as a refreshing option. This touch screen phone is smaller than most touch screen phones but the user interface handles the small 3.5-inch display rather well. Although 720p video recording had to be sacrificed, the camera still performs nicely for a mobile phone. Small size also means very lengthy battery life. The Xperia X10 mini suffers from the same operating system issue but you may appreciate the custom user interface that it uses.

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Pro

The look and feel of the Xperia X10 Pro is similar to the original X10. But once you slide out that keyboard, you are presented with more input options if you do not like using the touch in certain occasions.

You might feel that Sony Ericsson is a bit behind in the mobile phone market because of the old Android OS but updates will roll out and their camera performance still makes them tough competitors.
